In terms of the game’s narrative, Tyr plays a key role in the story of God of War Ragnarok. Many pre-release trailers for God of War Ragnarok showed Kratos and Tyr interacting with each other, and he gets a lot of screen time in the 20 or so hours it takes to beat the game. Now, one fan points out an interesting detail about Tyr’s tattoo.

A Reddit user named Warriors-Wrath has shared an image from God of War Ragnarok showing a tattoo on Tyr’s arm. As seen in the picture, Tyr has a tattoo of Egyptian hieroglyphs all over his left arm. Warriors-Wrath claims to have just noticed this detail as fans try to theorize its connections to God of War Ragnarok’s lore.

One player mentions that they can be related to how Tyr was able to regrow his arm. For those unaware, a piece of dialogue from God of War Ragnarok indicates that Tyr lost his arm in a fight, but he was able to regrow it which is another reason why a fan speculates that it’s the reason his sleeve looks torn. However, the same user claims that Tyr lost his right arm in Norse mythology, while this image shows the tattoo on his left.

Other fans discuss the implications of this tattoo on the overall God of War franchise, as it could hint at the next game being set in Egypt. One user even has an interesting theory about how the story of Kratos and Atreus could lead them to Egypt. It’ll be interesting to see if this theory ends up coming true but as of now, developer Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that God of War Ragnarok is the final game in the Norse saga. The studio considered making it into a trilogy but ultimately decided to finish the tale in two entries.

Fans should note that Sony released a new update for God of War Ragnarok that added a photo mode to the game. A photo mode was probably among the top-most user-requested additions, and it seems like this feature was used to take the image in the Reddit post as well.

God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS4 and PS5.
