Please note that this article will have SPOILERS for both God of War and Loki.
The photo in question is from episode 5 of Loki, where a group of villainous Loki variants led by President Loki confront the 2012 Loki, alligator Loki, Kid Loki, and others. The confrontation includes a look at a wide variety of Loki variants, proving that the God of Mischief can appear in many forms. And it’s this scene where the God of War connection comes into play.

Those that have played through the 2018 God of War game know about the big twist involving Kratos’ son Atreus. It’s revealed by the end of the game that Atreus is Loki, the destined God of Mischief, though he hasn’t quite lived up to that mantle just yet. This essentially makes Atreus yet another Loki “variant,” and so Reddit user Homelss_Emperor has photoshopped him into the scene among the other Lokis.
Of course, Loki in God of War is quite a bit different than the version of the Norse God seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki in God of War is still a child and doesn’t really embody any of the characteristics that one usually associates with the being from Norse mythology. However, it’s quite possible that will change with the upcoming God of War: Ragnarok game, especially since it seems other major Norse mythological figures are set to join the franchise.
God of War’s secret ending features a brief cameo from Thor, the God of Thunder and Loki’s “brother.” It stands to reason that Thor will be a major antagonist in the next God of War game, and so it could begin the conflict between him and Loki. It’s also possible that Odin will play a role in the next God of War game, but then again, Sony Santa Monica may instead save him for the inevitable third game in this new take on the series.
All fans can do at this time is wait for Sony Santa Monica to share more information. There are rumors that a God of War: Ragnarok trailer could come as soon as next month, though, so hopefully the wait won’t be a long one.
God of War is out now for PS4.
