These exceptional numbers will, hopefully, prompt Sony to port even more of its exclusives to PC in the future. The company’s other former exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn experienced similar levels of success on launch as well. The decision to begin porting PlayStation exclusive games to PC was seemingly brought on by pressure from developers at Sony who saw the potential profit in the idea. The idea has paid serious dividends for the company and one can’t help but wonder if this may encourage Sony to make nearly all of its games timed exclusives.
The game’s support from the PC community may also be the result of God of War’s director encouraging players to make mods for the game. Cory Barlog, the game’s director, stated that there are plans to implement mod support in the future. Barlog did, however, state that this may take some time as the systems used to make the game were custom and complicated.
The God of War PC port’s ultrawide monitor support also drew interest from the PC community. According to Matt Dewald, God of War’s senior manager of technical production, ultrawide support was difficult to implement because the developers had to go through the entire game and manually adapt anything that looked out of place.
God of War’s success on PC is only the beginning for Playstation in 2022. The highly anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is releasing in February as well as a sequel to God of War, although a release date for the latter is yet to be announced. PlayStation gamers have a lot to look forward to this year and PC gamers have an exciting future ahead of them if Sony continues its trend of releasing its exclusives on PC.
God of War is available now on PC and PS4.
