Like most popular video games, God of War receives many pieces of artwork from new and old fans that enjoy the game. Sometimes it’s an artwork of Kratos and Atreus, or their allies Mimir and the Dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri, and even their enemies Baldur, Magni, and Modi. A fan recently shared some of their own fan art of Kratos on Reddit and reveals the personal reason why they made it.

The Reddit user shared their fan art of Kratos three days ago, which is a dark image of the seasoned warrior with the Greek Omega symbol behind him. In the post, the user revealed that their uncle was the one who got them interested in God of War, to begin with. Not only that, their uncle even resembled Kratos in his appearance, but sadly their uncle passed away.

The Reddit user made the artwork of Kratos to honor their uncle and posted it three days ago on what would’ve been their uncle’s birthday. The response from commenters to the post has generally been positive, with most offering their condolences to the user about their uncle. The artwork itself was what drew most users’ attention, but learning about the personal meaning behind it made the art more compelling to plenty of them.

Honoring a loved one resonates with the game since the main plot of God of War centers around Kratos and Atreus journeying together to honor the last wishes of Faye, Krato’s second wife and Atreus’ mother. The journey is more than the characters could’ve possibly imagined it would be, and their strength and relationship are tested in many ways. By the end, the duo become stronger warriors and grow closer as father and son.

While not every piece of fan art for the game has a sentimental backstory like this one, the passion fans feel for the game always shows in their artwork. Along with artwork of Kratos and Atreus, there has even been fan art of what Odin could look like in God of War Ragnarok. With the anticipation continuing to build for the upcoming sequel, there will continue to be more fan artwork of Kratos and the other characters before the game’s release.

God of War is available now on the PS4 and will release for PC on January 14, 2022.
