God of War was the eighth entry in the popular, PlayStation-exclusive action-adventure series following the Spartan warrior, Kratos, years after the events of God of War 3. The game follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they trek across Midgard to fulfill the final wish of his wife to spread her ashes from the highest peak in the realms. During their journey, the two must survive the dangers of the Norse world while being hunted by Asgardians, searching for something or someone related to Kratos and Atreus’ journey.

Along their journey, one of the characters Kratos and Atreus receive help from is the aforementioned god, Freya, who welcomes the pair into her hidden home in Midgard and beloved giant turtle, Chaurli. Reddit user DoctorHarry1969 made this the focus of their art piece, using little more than a blank notebook and pencil. DoctorHarry’s drawing of Chaurli captures the little details of the turtle and the house attached to its underbelly but still manages to be a relatively simple sketch drawing of Freya’s home.

The overall response from other users on Reddit is largely positive, with most comments complimenting DoctorHarry’s sketch of Chaurli. Several users reference their own experience playing God of War and seeing the turtle for the first time, echoing Atreus’ own wonder at the wonderous sight befitting the game’s world.

That said, DoctorHarry’s choice may come as a surprise to some players, given the wealth of striking characters and creatures to choose from for artistic inspiration. Baldur, for example, stands out as one of the most visually impressive characters thanks to the contrast his small, tattooed frame offers to the immense power at his fingertips. Chaurli, on the other hand, doesn’t have such power and simply serves as a character’s home, but he instead stands out by serving as the centerpiece to the colorful space cultivated by Freya to help contrast the bleak, dangerous world experienced across the rest of the game.

God of War is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
