One fan in particular who makes custom prop weapons online as Dovah Design, has taken inspiration from the latest God of War to recreate the newly iconic Leviathan Axe. This is one of several designs created by Dovah Design that focuses on recreating fantasy weapons and armor from other video games and movies, with a general leaning towards those from a fantasy setting.

The result of this project is an incredible looking Leviathan Axe from God of War that perfectly recreates the runic and constellation carvings onto the iconic weapon, as well as using a fan-favorite pommel. Given the slightly changing nature of the weapon as the game continues and players are able to have the dwarven blacksmiths Brok and Sindri upgrade the axe, this design appears to be built off a fully powered version from late in a playthrough. Additionally, it has the Retribution pommel normally received from defeating Sigrun at the end of the optional Valkyrie questline, making it one of the strongest versions of the Leviathan Axe.
It isn’t entirely clear from the post above what this Leviathan Axe is built from, but considering how similar weapons from Dovah Design have been made, the weapon is likely a combination of foam and resin. Casted resin is a common material for prop designers like Dovah Design, especially when looking to create several of these replica weapons, though foam might be necessary to make sure that the large axe head isn’t too heavy to carry around. Regardless, this replica really does bring God of War’s Leviathan Axe to life with all of its intricacies and designs.
For a series as popular as God of War, there will likely be more fan-made art and replicas like this latest version of the Leviathan Axe to come from the creative community that has grown around this game. With any luck, God of War: Ragnarok could introduce even more weapons that could become icons of the series and inspire further fan projects in the future. For now, there doesn’t seem to be an end to how much people will recreate, reimagine, or redesign the Leviathan Axe in a plethora of new ways.
God of War is available now for PS4 and PS5, with a PC port set to release January 14th, 2022.
