Bursting onto the video game landscape with a vengeance in 2005’s PlayStation 2 hit God of War, Kratos quickly became one of the most iconic video game characters of the era. With his ash-white skin and brutal combat abilities, the Ghost of Sparta looked and felt unique when compared to many of his gaming counterparts. Kratos would go on to serve as the protagonist in multiple God of War sequels for the PS2, PS3, and PSP before receiving an emotionally grounded reimagining for 2018’s God of War. Now tasked with looking after his young son, Atreus, the older and wiser Kratos has become a character with far greater emotional depth while losing none of his combat finesse.

In a series of photos shared on Instagram, user dnog.mocs showed off the impressive bust of God of War’s Kratos that they designed and built using LEGO bricks. Although LEGO video game tributes are nothing new, this remarkably detailed recreation of the Ghost of Sparta is a sight to behold. Sporting a long, black beard and a red stripe running down over the left eye, the LEGO bust does a fantastic job of capturing the iconic character’s likeness using only off-the-shelf pieces. Featuring photos of both a 3D model of the bust as well as the finished build, browsing through the gallery is a treat for fans of both God of War and LEGO.
The photo of the detailed LEGO bust seemingly went over well with God of War fans, with the gallery having already received numerous likes from impressed viewers. Although LEGO makes for a great way to snap together statues of video game icons, it’s not the only artistic medium players have used to pay tribute to God of War and its brooding protagonist. From faithful recreations of Kratos’ devastating Blades of Chaos, to God of War tattoos, to a gingerbread version of Kratos’ cabin, creative gamers have found all sorts of unique ways to pay homage to the long-running series.
This impressive Kratos bust is a fantastic example of the sorts of wonderfully inventive ways fans choose to honor their favorite franchises. And while it’s unlikely that gamers will see an officially-licensed God of War set from the traditionally family-friendly LEGO Group any time soon, this impressive build shows that the two seemingly disparate brands make a surprisingly good fit.
