As noted by PlayStation’s social media accounts, the trailer hints at connections to past God of War titles beyond just the continued existence of Kratos. For instance, his son mentions being cursed and how it’s tied to the adventure him and his father now pursue. Kratos says nothing, but it’s obvious that he knows more about the situation than he’s letting on. Then there’s the ancient pottery Kratos stumbles upon, which featured a depiction of Kratos himself on its side with his classic blades held in his hands. This is certainly the God of War fans will remember.
Perhaps most exciting within the trailer was the array of weapons Kratos and son were shown wielding. Not only did Kratos have a glowing axe with which he summoned the World Serpent, but he also was seen with a mechanical shield. His son carried with him a bow and arrow, but even more exciting was when he rode upon Kratos’ back and acted as a weapon himself. He stabbed a monster or demon of some sort with a dagger after being grabbed.
God of War is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and is tentatively planned for release in early 2018.
