First released in 1998, Glover is a 3D platformer. As the name suggests, players take control of an anthropomorphic glove as they are tasked with navigating through a variety of intriguing levels in a 3D space. Upon release, the game received praise from gamers for its unique gameplay. For example, the titular glove not only could run around, but it could move a morphing ball to solve puzzles. Recently, it was revealed that players were about to receive another chance to revisit this odd platformer, except this time on newer hardware.

In a tweet from March 7, Piko Interactive LLC announced that Glover was making a comeback. According to the developer, the retro 3D platformer was expected to come to PC via the Steam store on April 20, 2022. Along with this announcement, several screenshots were shown on the official Steam page for Glover, revealing that the game appeared to be running at a higher resolution. With this PC release, the developer noted that the title was being “completely redone” based on the source code from the N64 version. As a result, Piko Interactive LLC claimed that gamers would have an improved presentation on modern gaming machines.
For those wanting more background on this odd story from the N64, Glover takes place in a magical realm known as the Crystal Kingdom. The adventure begins after an explosion caused by a wizard sends 7 valuable crystals flying across the world. In order to save the kingdom, Glover, a magical glove, must track down the lost gems and stop an evil glove in the process.
This news regarding the re-release of Glover is likely exciting for many fans of 3D platformers as it gives them an opportunity to replay this unusual game. In addition, it offers those newer to gaming a chance to check out a retro title for the first time. Time will tell if this re-release causes more classic 90s 3D platformers to make their way to Steam in the days ahead. Perhaps, this even increases the chances of seeing a finished version of Glover 2 emerge in the future.
Glover is available on the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation, while an enhanced port is expected to release on PC via Steam on April 20, 2022.
